Welcome to the home of LLFA Tape in Australia STREET LIGHTING ENGINEERS SWITCH TO LLFA A technical officer for the Institute of Lighting Engineers in the UK has procured LLFA Compression Tape for cable jointing in a bid to address safety concerns and to reduce the environmental impact associated with current joining methods. Members of the Institute of Lighting have addressed their concerns about the environmental and safety impact of current jointing methods by adopting a new jointing solution using LLFA Compression Tape. Ken Weeks, South West Regional Technical Officer for the Institute of Lighting, has procured LLFA Compression Tape for cable jointing by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council where he is the Street Lighting Manager. This high specification product, developed for the nuclear industry, was approved for cable jointing in the UK by conforming to BS EN 50393 just a few months ago and is attracting significant interest as it is non-toxic, easily applied and extremely versatile. Technical expert Mr. Weeks said the decision to use LLFA Compression Tape by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council was taken in a bid to reduce the authority’s environmental impact and to address safety concerns associated with current joining methods. He said: "The industry as a whole has got to change. We need to be embracing products which allow us to perform more efficiently and allow us to reduce our carbon footprint. Resin jointing is a toxic substance and is very difficult to dispose of. It also has to be handled very carefully by engineers. I believe we have found a solution which is just as effective as resin jointing but has none of the negative aspects associated with it." Engineers within Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council have been supplied with LLFA Compression Tape in place of heat shrink and resin cast joint kits. <- Back to: News Items
